Eclipse Chronicles II

We didn't get the best viewing weather for the eclipse. After a bright and cloudless weekend and a sunny start to Monday, a front moved through the area, covering the sky with clouds for about six hours. We did experience night falling in the middle of the afternoon, and the remarkable experience of a sunset that covered 360° of horizon. Still, even a cloudy eclipse is worth experiencing. Even better, we gathered at one of our favorite wineries. An afternoon of sipping wine took the sting of the clouds away.

I picked up a Vaonis Hestia telescope before the eclipse. This clever little device provides a 25x telescope and mount that uses your smartphone as the image-processing system. It worked very well, and I've been having fun tracking sunspots across the Sun's face with it. I'll also try it out on the moon and other bright objects once we get clear nights.
